Building memory, cent by cent

Viena launches this charity initiative with the support of Pasqual Maragall Foundation.

This Christmas, we are launching a new charitable campaign that will run throughout the coming year, 2019.

Under this initiative, by choosing such an everyday action as paying by card, you can round up the total on your bill and cooperate with the Pasqual Maragall Foundation. A simple, easy gesture that, if many of us take part, can provide a lot of help.

Cent by cent, we “Vienese” can work together to raise funds for a future without Alzheimer’s disease. We can all make a small contribution to research aimed at overcoming the disease, one that currently affects more than 46 million people around the world.

The Pasqual Maragall Foundation pursues the mission of promoting and funding scientific research in the field of Alzheimer’s disease. The biggest investment the Foundation makes is in scientific research projects for the prevention of Alzheimer’s and to improve the quality of life, both of those affected and of their relatives.

All contributions will go to fund research aimed at overcoming Alzheimer's disease.

All proceeds from this initiative will go to fund the new Clinical Research Unit for the Prevention of Dementia, promoted by the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), the research centre set up by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation. This Unit conducts research into the risk of developing dementia within five years in people strongly at risk of suffering from the disease. The Unit will also study whether revealing such information causes an emotional impact on participants, and will provide an action plan including primary prevention advice to reduce modifiable risk factors in the disease, and will seek to take part in specific studies for the detection and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.

The Foundation’s guiding principles are respect, integrity and transparency; values that Viena also fully shares. Small everyday gestures can help to bring about great changes, and we at Viena are among those who firmly believe that, through our daily efforts and our engagement, we can help to leave a more beautiful world to future generations.

We are the first restaurant company to support charitable rounding up of bills, thanks to Worldcoo, the Catalan start-up that brings together NGOs, companies and citizens in cooperation initiatives. Worldcoo devised this new way of giving collectively through small individual gestures.

The initiative has been launched at Viena’s establishments in Catalonia and Valencia and is open to all customers who choose to pay by card. You can also contribute via web, where you can see the total amount collected so far. Because, cent by cent, we are helping to construct memory.

As easy as saying “yes”.

  1. Place your order at the cash desk.
  2. Tell them you are paying by card.
  3. Click on “yes” on the payment terminal screen when it asks if you would like to round up your bill.
  4. Pay as usual.
